Well, after 69065966545924 years of not being back (usually because nothing has been going on in the doll world recently), here's ANOTHER return attempt!
American toy giant Mattel has announced during the Hong Kong Toys & Games Fair, that they will be collaborating with Big Hit Entertainment to make a toyline based on the Seoul, South Korea-based septet BTS.
That's right, Mattel is making a BTS toyline. No kidding!
This collaboration includes Mattel making toys, games, collectible figurines, roleplaying items and most importantly, fashion dolls and other items. You can look at the official news on Mattel's latest Twitter post here.
Mattel made this statement:
“We have signed a multi-category license contract with BTS’s agency Big Hit Entertainment, and we plan to create a variety of items such as dolls, collectible figurines, toys, games, and roleplaying items. The collaboration collection is set to be released this summer, and it will be the first collection to include dolls created around the likeness of BTS’s members. The outfits of the dolls will be based on those that BTS wore in their ‘Idol’ music video.”
Sejal Shah Miller, vice president and global brand general manager of Mattel, made this statement:
“BTS is a cultural phenomenon who transcends age, culture, and language, and through this partnership, we hope to create a new way for people around to world to connect with BTS. The cornerstone of our strategy is to partner with established franchises that have global appeal, and we believe that Mattel’s creative expertise will create a product that properly celebrates BTS.”
And, time for Samantha to go in fangirl mode in 3, 2, 1.
😍😆 😍😆 😍😆 😍😆
Just went off topic here.
My thoughts. Actually my thoughts will be in the form of a bulleted list. And my thoughts will be in the form of what I want to expect from this new doll line.
And of course, they will be earning their top spot on my Boy Band Doll Hall of Fame....
The toyline is slated for a summer 2019 international release. Follow Mattel on Twitter here for updates and more details on the BTS dolls!

- Perfect likenesses. And when I say perfect, I mean PERFECT. For my tastes. For Mattel, when it comes to making dolls based on celebs, I would expect them to look like who it's supposed to look like, I don't want them to look like a Barbie/Ken doll dressed up as a celeb.
- Hair. Of course, I had to say that. We want male celebrity dolls to have real hair we can run our fingers through and touch.
- Fashions. We want accurate fashions. And I mean accurate fashions based on their music videos. Mattel, you better not be cheap.
And of course, they will be earning their top spot on my Boy Band Doll Hall of Fame....
Top-to-bottom: New Kids On The Block, One Direction, BTS |
